North Dakota is host to over half of the United States’ entire nuclear arsenal, all in the form of Minuteman ICBMs – only Montana still has other active Minuteman silos, and where it has a small handful, North Dakota is virtually littered with them. If you count only active, ready-to-launch nuclear capabilities, North Dakota has half of the entire world’s nuclear weapons capabilities.
The rest of the arsenal is spread between secure storage facilities in Nevada, New Mexico and Texas, armed on naval vessels in Savannah GA, submarines in Seattle WA, and bombers in Missouri and Louisiana. Smaller tactical nuclear weapons are few in number, but nearly all combat-ready implements are located in North Carolina. NORAD command is located in Colorado, but since all of the actual weapons are located in other states that they are now at war with, we have to assume they will have lost access to them.
Before a single one of those other nuclear weapons can deploy against it, North Dakota will have launched enough nukes to wipe out the entire rest of the country’s military capabilities, if not the entire rest of the country in any sense. With NORAD rendering no aid to the other states, their defense systems will be powerless to stop more than one or two ICBMs from landing on target.
