From The New York Times:
More than 190 people were killed [update: at least 200], many of them asleep in their beds, when a giant wall of water carrying tons of mud and debris surged through a city in southwest Colombia on Saturday after heavy rains caused a nearby river to overflow, officials said.
Many of the residents of Mocoa, a city of about 350,000 near the border with Ecuador, were sleeping when the wave swept through town just after midnight. Houses were buried under feet of mud, and videos posted to social media showed vehicles as large as trucks being carried downstream by a rapidly moving current.
